The song is featured in the Tony-nominated Hell\u2019s Kitchen<\/em> loosely based on Keys\u2019 early life and music<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n \n\tJay-Z<\/a> and Alicia Keys<\/a> joined forces to perform \u201cEmpire State of Mind\u201d live at the 2024 Tony Awards on Sunday. The track \u2014 from the rapper\u2019s 11th studio album, 2009\u2019s The Blueprint 3<\/em> \u2014 is also featured in the Tony-nominated musical Hell\u2019s Kitchen<\/em>, which is vying for 13 awards at this year\u2019s ceremony.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWe at the Tony Awards tonight,\u201d Keys said as she walked down a set of stairs from the stage at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. \u201cHad to do something crazy. It\u2019s my hometown,\u201d she added as she walked through the audience while dancers performed on stage. Then, Jay-Z appeared on a large screen that served as a stage backdrop while he rapped from the lobby outside of the venue. Keys later joined him to perform the song together.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cEmpire State of Mind\u201d topped the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks the year it was released and the following year, it won two of three Grammys for which it was nominated \u2014 Best Rap Song and Best Rap\/Sung Collaboration.<\/p>\n
