Saturday Night Live<\/em><\/a> has catapulted the careers of many of today\u2019s most popular comedians, including Will Ferrell<\/strong><\/a>, Eddie Murphy<\/strong><\/a>, Tina Fey<\/strong><\/a> and Adam Sandler<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n Murphy, for his part, appeared as a cast member from 1980 to 1984. He went on to become a lucrative movie star, but tension between him and the show arose after David Spade<\/strong><\/a> joked about the Coming to America<\/em> actor\u2019s career in a 1995 sketch. \u201cLook, children, it\u2019s a falling star!\u201d the Joe Dirt<\/em> actor quipped following the releases of Murphy\u2019s films Vampire in Brooklyn<\/em> and Harlem Nights<\/em>, which failed to win over the box office.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat really irritated me about it at the time was that it was a career shot. It was like, \u2018Hey, come on, man, it\u2019s one thing for you guys to do a joke about some movie of mine, but my career?\u2019\u201d Murphy told Rolling Stone<\/em> in 2011. \u201cI\u2019m one of you guys.\u201d<\/p>\n The Nutty Professor<\/em> star briefly returned to Saturday Night Live<\/em><\/a> in 2015 for the show\u2019s 40th anniversary special. However, he did not take the Studio 8H stage by force again until December 2019, when he hosted an episode<\/a> that earned him his first Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.<\/p>\n
